Electrical Fault Investigations

Electrical Fault Investigations

Electrical fault investigations involve systematic procedures to identify and analyse faults within electrical systems to ensure the safe and speedy restoration of production.

Investigations start with a thorough inspection of the electrical installation/equipment, where technicians seek evidence from operators, look for visible signs of damage, wear, or malfunction and all other types of reliable evidence such as flags, error codes, switch and contactor positions, indicator lamp condition, SCADA and PLC data, etc. Other evidence collection techniques include reviewing historical maintenance records, and using testing equipment, such as multimeters, insulation resistance testers, loggers, oscilloscopes, etc.

The investigation aims to determine the root cause of faults, which may range from simple issues like a blown fuse to complex problems involving circuit design or insulation failure. Once identified, solutions can be proposed, including repairs, replacements, or system upgrades to prevent future occurrences.

Safety is a paramount concern during electrical fault investigations. Investigators must adhere to safety protocols and standards to protect themselves and the surrounding environment while conducting their work.

Proper documentation of findings and corrective actions is also essential for compliance and future reference.

All this seeks to ensure the speedy restoration of production and prevent recurrences.

This course takes approximately 8 hours to complete and the trainee has 30 days to complete the course but this can be extended out to a maximum of 12 months from the date of enrolment.

The course includes a 156 page ebook of the course notes and a two sided pocket sized card that can be laminated or loaded onto a phone and used to help ensure investigations stay on track. Check the linked flyer for additional information.
